This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_00EE_01BFF1EA.1ABE8CC0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----=_NextPart_001_00EF_01BFF1EA.1ACF55A0" ------=_NextPart_001_00EF_01BFF1EA.1ACF55A0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit what was the reason you changed the motherboard? i am curious because i have been having stability problems with both my EPOX and TYAN mb's that use VIA chipsets. mostly i have been having random crashes and rebooting on win NT, Freebsd, and windows 98. I realize that it looks like a hardware issue and swapping out the memory, CPU and hard drive controller/hard disk didnt help. It is very strange...I am wondering if the AMD cpu's i am using are just crap or something. they are 300 and 350's running at 100 MHZ FSB, I even tried slowing it way down to 66 MHZ fsb and 200 MHZ without any real increase in stability. Maybe there is a bios issue i need to look at closer does any one have any suggestions? No 2 things can be the same, they cannot exist in the same space at the same time. -----Original Message----- From: owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG [mailto:owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG]On Behalf Of Generic Player Sent: Thursday, July 20, 2000 4:48 AM To: questions@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: The death of my machine. Ok, here is a good one for you. I switched motherboards, from a board based on a VIA chipset to an ASUS board based on an ALi chipset. At first after booting up, everything was fine. Then, the next day, just all of a sudden, I couldn't telnet or ftp into the machine. I rebooted it, and sendmail wouldn't start, and I still couldn't ftp or telnet into it, or access anything by its DNS name, although I could still ping stuff by its IP, apache still started though. I figured maybe I needed a re-install what with changing the mobo and all, so I re-installed, re-formatting during the install. But, even after the fresh install, the same problem still existed. Any ideas what this could be? Its FreeBSD 4.0-release, a k-6 300MHz with 128 MB of RAM on an ASUS P5A-B motherboard now.
