[-- Attachment #1 --] in https://www.freebsd.org/doc/en/articles/ldap-auth/ldap.html it would be very helpful to mention that slapd.conf needs these schemas included for the examples to work: include /etc/openldap/schema/cosine.schema include /etc/openldap/schema/nis.schema include /etc/openldap/schema/inetorgperson.schema On re-reading it, I see there is a note that "the relevant schemas need to be loaded in slapd.conf" but it's a lot less likely to get overlooked (as I did) if you include a slapd.conf example like there is for most of the other steps mentioned... BTW, this doc is very helpful otherwise!
