It also makes no sense since there ARE profit making entities behind FreeBSD, among them being Walnut Creek CDROM, Whistle Communications, Oracle/NCI (who rebadges FreeBSD as "NC/OS"), to name but a few. This really smells to me like Eric is really NOT pro "open source" and is merely masking a Linux die-hard's devotion behind the cause of open source software while erecting artificial barriers to anyone else who wishes to fly under the same banner. That stinks and you can bet that I'm going to publically raise the issue during the upcoming OpenSource event that O'Reilly is hosting. The whole opensource forum shouldn't be about factionalism, but Eric seems to be doing exactly that and I, for one, won't stand for it quietly.
