He installed from scratch and everything worked. I don't know what the problem is... Btw: reinstalling linux_base while having other ports installed destroys the contents the the RPM database since "rpm --init" is called, so it's better to install everything from scratch in any case. Any ideas to allow an portupgrade of linux_base are welcome (perhaps moving the init of the rpm database into a separate port on which linux_base can depend upon?).
