Working compatibility code needs to be in "forever", but ROOTSLICE_HUNT
doesn't actually work (it leaves fsck broken).

Maybe not. The root device for a "d.d." disk can not have a slice component
if it works at all, and ROOTSLICE_HUNT only affects device names with a
slice component.
