If you don't have that option in, as I understand it, the kernel will
not run anything compiled uner 4.X.... simple no?
I'd suggest you start with a GENERIC kernel anyway THEN change the
kernel so you get into it what you want. It's a good policy to not do
too many changes at once and it saves on stress as well.
