makes a better bikeshed than:
post-install:

${INSTALL_DATA} ${DOCS:S,^,${WRKSRC}/,} ${DOCSDIR}
.endif
Your variant keeps the empty post-install target in case of NOPORTDOCS.
But more importantly, please, do the same to gd2, which will eventually
replace gd...
