Medeiros, A daemon is an important concept for OSes (in particular, for server OSes): in the picture you will easily recognize the fork(2) reference. I have recently discussed the origin of the word at some length as well as the change in meaning of the original ancient Greek term (ie "daimon", cf "daiomai"): you may wish to search the -doc list for "the word demon". Here I will limit myself to saying that "daimon" was a vox media, and as such it had necessarily no "bad" connotations (cf in Homer, Plato, etc.); those ideas were developed subsequently (cf New Testament).
