Regarding the earlier discussion on slice tables, I would like to add that
there is a legitimate reason for the BIOS to demand a valid slice table. I
know a number of manufacturers look for a special partition type entry for
their suspend-to-disk feature. This recently came to my renewed attention,
as the IBM ThinkPad series now suspend to a partition type 165 (0xA5).
