That was me. I don't have pure facts but I read svn logs daily. Today we 
have a bunch of:

         Remove variables which are initialized but never used 
thereafter reported by gcc46 warning

Approved by:    cperciva (implicit)

So at least there are some people working on polishing CURRENT/STABLE up 
to the point it will build with gcc46.
