And on a recent system, nothing has to be compiled into the kernel, it's all available as a kld. I'll make a ADSL (PPTP) HOWTO available soon, I'll ask someone who has account on http://people.freebsd.org/ to host it, since I don't have a sufficient bandwidth place where I can post it.
