I've seen this with an old mobo and a 40GB disk. Try using the
"Dangerously dedicated" mode. I don't remember the keyboard
shortcut, but it's documented in the help for the fdisk screen in
/stand/sysinstall (the installer).
I hadn't found a real solution back then (the DD option occured to
me later), but got it to work in the 32GB space.
