I think that very much depends on what you mean by ``gone commercial'' If 
you've ever been to one of Erics talks (say at ISPCon or USENIX or LISA) then 
you'll know that the commercial side sells support and features often needed 
in a commercial situation (i.e. point and click interfaces which make 
Pointy-Haired-Bosses happy), but the money is also used to fund future 
development of the *freeware* version. The free sendmail is not, and never 
will, go away as it is a fundamental part of Erics business model. Since 
sendmail is used by ~75 of the internet as its MTA, keeping it freeware gives 
him tremendous influence over the market, which can only help his commercial 
sales.
