What you call "official release" even not compiles on FreeBSD among its lots of bugs, missing HTML 3.0 tags handling, forms input & tables support. Latest official release really not supported anymore by UKans, it is frozen. You can check discussion at http://www.wfbr.edu/dir/lynx/ (read two suggested files, lynx2-4-fm.zip-lst & CHANGES). Also you can subscribe to lynx development mailing list where only Lynx-FM discussed now, not official version. Lynx-FM changed almost several times in the week. As you can see, I put it on FTP and update port relatively rare, I don't think it can be called "bleeding edge" in this case. -- Andrey A.
