I have a ES sound chip (forget which one exactly) and it works very well, I had to add a line to /boot/loader.conf after I added the pcm device to my kernel, look in /boot/defaults/loader.conf for defaults. The required options would be one of the following: snd_maestro_load="YES" # ess maestro-2 pci snd_maestro3_load="YES" # ess maestro-3 pci I am running FreeBSD 4.4-STABLE, I don't know when this support was added.
