I've supplied all sorts of debugging info, but have had no luck so far.
Let me know if you want to know how to get a dump of this occuring, it
requires another box running FreeBSD, a serial cable, and a null modem
adapter.

Do you know the brand/model of the IDE controller on that laptop?
