I think this is an excellent solution.  I was aiming to create
a 'home page' with helpful and brief 'howtos' and guidance notes there,
so adding an 'ONLINE' / 'OFFLINE' notice and being able to dial up
from a secure CGI link sounds reasonable.  It never crossed my mind
to consider CGI.
