Before compiling the kernel.   I ~think~ there's something about it in 
/usr/src/UPDATING--I had the problem and found the solution with a look on 
deja--it worked and since then, others have mentioned that it solved their 
problem as well.

This would be after make buildworld but before make buildkernel (or makekernel)
