Normal users (including root) don't have to and in fact are prohibited from specifying a user to run their jobs under. Try this... '*/15 * * * * /usr/libexec/rs2 >> /var/log/rs.log' -=Jim=- P.S. Yes, there's a small difference between /etc/crontab and /var/cron/tabs/root - it's important to understand that.
