Also, why not make it dependent on BATCH or PACKAGE_BUILDING knobs, but leave as "on" by default for normal "make install" case? I thought aforementioned knobs are provided for cases like this one (among other things), when we cannot distribute packages due to some stupid patent. ./danfe
