looks okay to me... the separate disk part should not matter.

this may be the problem... are they in c:\freebsd or are they in
A:\freebsd\* like so:

jan:/dos % ls freebsd

bin/ compat1x/ compat20/ dict/ floppies/
games/ info/ manpages/ options.doc packages/
ports/ readme src/

jan:/dos % ls freebsd/bin

bin.aa bin.ab bin.ac bin.ad bin.ae bin.af bin.ag
... etc ...
bin.ca bin.cb bin.cc bin.cd bin.ce bin.cf bin.cg

Sorry if I overstate the obvious but the individual files must be
in their appropriate subdirectories just like they are on wcarchive.

It asks if it cannot find the files installed as in the above example.

This is strange, maybe. I created a boot and a root floppy under
unix like so:

jan:/dos/freebsd/floppies % dd if=boot.flp of=/dev/fd0 obs=18k
jan:/dos/freebsd/floppies % dd if=root.flp of=/dev/fd0 obs=18k

Boot using the boot floppy. If it asks, insert the root floppy.
If you have assigned a /dos mount point for your dos partition
and have untar'd the files in their /dos/freebsd sub directories
it should find everything else. It has worked for me many dozens
of times. If you need more help, you can mail me, no problem.
