The latest BSD operating systems are based on the 4.4BSD kernel. This
includes FreeBSD 4.2, NetBSD 1.5, and OpenBSD 2.8. So the OS version
the kernel version are really not the same.

In comparison, the current Linux kernel is version 2.4.
