The suggested fix isn't necessarily correct. It is sufficient to move sysctl calls after mounting /usr. You do not need IP forwarding turned on until after /usr is up, even if the /usr partition is far away. Again, the proper fix is to move all sysctl calls after the mount of /usr. Paul
