One more idea just came to mind that I have seen in the past. Do there happen to be any HD-50 type connectors in this chain (an HD-50 is the 0.5" pin spacing high density scsi-ii connector, not the Centronics-50 on the 1542)? If so please look at the male HD-50 connectors for signs of bent pins. If one of the ground pins is bent or broken off it smells just like a cable problem and can be very hard to track down. (Well, unless your like me and have scsi-ii cables laying all over and just do a wholesale swap to a known good set when that odor starts to get even the slightest bit noticable :-)) -- Rod Grimes rgrimes@gndrsh.aac.dev.com Accurate Automation Company Reliable computers for FreeBSD
