I think you will need to backport some MII changes back too... I do not have actual bce w/SERDES hardware at hand so I think I can not provide some useful help except backporting some code and test to see if it broke my Dell 2950 crashbox :-( Maybe you can provide some panic messages (backtraces if you can, of course) so we can investigate further? Note that it would be nice if you could provide diff in unified format, which is usually preferred and makes it easier to read.
