It may not be a democracy, but it's also not a monarchy. :-) If recent core events have taught us anything at all, it's that nobody in core escapes being accountable to the developers at large and if the consensus opinion supports a given change then that change should be made. Anyone backing out such a change on his own recognizance will find his own commit privileges somewhat emperiled, and that goes for *anyone* in committers. Bruce only gets "50x the vote" on occasion by generally being the only one to comment at all.
