The main reason people tend to choose BSDI is because corporations tend to like commercial software. They don't seem to realise that mailing lists like this exist and work as well as they do. This probably isn't the place to find a well balanced opinion ;-) When it comes to configuration, FreeBSD seems much nicer - BSDI's install doesn't have as many options. Another big argument for FreeBSD is that is ships on what is now 4 CDs - full of source code for the O/S and binaries for just about every other software package you're likely to need. BSDI kinda falls short here. However, there are more commercial packages available for BSDI - but most of those run on FreeBSD anyway, although of course you'd have trouble getting support from the vendors then. Good luck Scot.
