--------------B3464D5B2D8BEEE9762BE84F Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-2022-jp Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi there - I don't know if this is the same problem or not, but I had a problem where because my 3c509B was set to the wrong IRQ, connections were still possible (?? why ??) but were very very slow, around the levels that you are describing. Try using the 3c509 configuration program (I think it was 3c509cfg.exe or something like that) to verify that the card and FreeBSD agree on what the IRQ and memory address should be for the card. Hope this helps, Brian > I hope anyone can help me out with this one. > > I have an ethernet link to a cable modem with a 3com 3c509 card. > Under (blasted) windoze NT 4.0 workstation (service pack 3) all works > really fine. > I can get speeds up to 150 k/s tops and 30 k/s average. > > I installed FreeBSD version 2.2.6 (and a little later 2.2.7, but now > back to 2.2.6 again due to shared-with-friend CDROM reasons, with 2.2.7 > same problem) > configured the network exactly like the NT configuration (ip, gateway, > dns, hostname etc.), but connection speeds are EXTREMELY slow. I have an ethernet link to a cable modem with a 3com 3c509 card. Under (blasted) windoze NT 4.0 workstation (service pack 3) all works really fine. I can get speeds up to 150 k/s tops and 30 k/s average. I installed FreeBSD version 2.2.6 (and a little later 2.2.7, but now back to 2.2.6 again due to shared-with-friend CDROM reasons, with 2.2.7 same problem) configured the network exactly like the NT configuration (ip, gateway, dns, hostname etc.), but connection speeds are EXTREMELY slow. Just starting at about 300 b/s (yes BYTES / second) rapidly dropping down to 100, 60, 20, STALLED (using the netscape communicator 4.04 port). ping doesn't work at all, all packages are lost, and traceroute gives hop times of over 1900 ms. DNS lookup does work and i get some packages back when doing tcp traffic but the speed drops dead very quickly. I bought the crab (TCP/IP network administration) book from O'Reilly's, after digging through Greg Lehey's really great and comprehensive Complete FreeBSD. I tried hard to figure out what is wrong, but i can't sort it out. I would really like to jumpstart with the internet so i can learn the marvelous world of UNIX at much greater speed. If anyone can help me with this i would really jump in the air with joy:) If more configuration stuff is needed to give a solution, i would be more than happy to provide this. thnx Lasse</PRE> </BLOCKQUOTE> </HTML> --------------B3464D5B2D8BEEE9762BE84F-- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
