I've been doing some further research for the talk I'll be doing
at RIPE 44 next week, and I found out about a couple of other
packages you should know about.

Specifically, PowerDNS is a front-end to a variety of SQL
database implementations (including MySQL and PostgreSQL), and is
sufficiently powerful and robust that it is in use serving as the
exclusive provider of DNS services for the ccTLD ".tk". They also
have managed services, commercial support and consulting, etc....

It's also been recently released as open source software.

The only thing I don't know is just how fast the program is
compared to the alternatives. I will be benchmarking it next, and
then I'll be able to more accurately compare it to the alternatives.

You should also know about MyDNS. It's another front-end to
MySQL, although it appears to have had less development, fewer
features, probably less robust, etc.... However, it does ship with
some pre-built PHP scripts for doing DNS management through the
back-end database, and may be interesting for that reason alone.

	See <http://www.powerdns.com/>; and <http://mydns.bboy.net/>.
There's a pretty good list of various server programs available at
<http://www.maradns.org/dns_software.html>, although it doesn't list
QuickDNS from Men & Mice (see
<http://www.menandmice.com/2000/2200_quick_dns.html>).
