Well, he does have a point.  Remember, the objective is to get rid of
fixed cmaj etc, and DEV_MODULE() forces these to be static.  The driver
source can't know what it will be at compile time if it's to be dynamic,
and there isn't much point allocating a major until we've actually
found a device.
