BUT - in my (admittedly meager) experience, desktops are easier to deal with than laptops, FreeBSD-wise. If I were looking for a "play around and learn it" system, I'd prefer to grab an old 486 or slow pentium machine off the junk heap, rather than deal with a laptop.
