To give short feedback on the issue: Doug Rabson sent me a patch (that's 
already commited to HEAD). With the patch I didn't observe a panic 
within the last 48 hours, so I consider the bug fixed. The MFC to 
7-STABLE is scheduled as I could read from the commit log.
