My system (FreeBSD 4.7-PRERELEASE #0: Fri Sep  6 23:24:02 EDT 2002) 
hangs at this point also, but it's a finite hang around 1 minute.  I 
only have 1 DVD drive and 1 CD-RW drive on controller ad0.  You might 
just wait a while longer before assuming the box is hung, as I haven't 
looked into it any farther.
