I noticed, when upgrading my Windows machine to the latest Orinoco (aka
WaveLAN) drivers, that support for Ad-Hoc Demo Mode has been dropped.
Hence, my nice little WaveLAN network has ceased operation. :(
Instead they have created a new IBSS "Peer to Peer" mode, which
supposedly does NOT require the presence of an Access Point, just like
Ad-Hoc.
However, from what I understand, peer-to-peer mode isn't supported by all
the drivers out there; for example, the Linux driver, from what I
understand, does not support it.
My question is: is this mode of operation (Peer to peer/IBSS) supported by
the FreeBSD wi driver in 4.3-STABLE?
I browsed around the man pages and found this in the man page for
wicontrol(8):
-i iface -c 0|1
Allow the station to create a service set (IBSS). Permitted
values are 0 (don't create IBSS) and 1 (enable creation of
IBSS). The default is 0.
Note: this option is provided for experimental purposes only:
enabling the creation of an IBSS on a host system doesn't ap-
pear to actually work.
So it would seem that IBSS mode is *not* supported by the wi driver... but
I thought I had better check, just in case this information is inaccurate
or otherwise out of date.
Any ideas as to how I can get my WaveLAN setup working again?
