--- Comment #1 from Volodymyr Kostyrko <arcade@b1t.name> ---
Hello.

# Current state of things with app

Resilio Sync is abandonware, period. Newer versions distributed have minor
fixes and linking updates, but otherwise no new development happens - no new
features, no memory bugs fixed, no optimizations.

Since version 3.0 Resilio Sync comes fully free. You still have to register,
but you obtain full unlock key, for free. Same key applies to last 2.x version
in this port with no issues.

# Current state of things with a port

Just tried again:

# make checksum
===> License EULA accepted by the user
===>   rslsync-2.8.1.1390 depends on file: /usr/local/sbin/pkg - found
=> resilio-sync_freebsd_x64.tar.gz doesn't seem to exist in
/usr/ports/distfiles/rslsync-2.8.1.1390.
=> Attempting to fetch
https://download-cdn.resilio.com/2.8.1.1390/freebsd/x64/0/resilio-sync_freebsd_x64.tar.gz
resilio-sync_freebsd_x64.tar.gz                         12 MB 2556 kBps    05s
===> Fetching all distfiles required by rslsync-2.8.1.1390 for building
=> SHA256 Checksum OK for rslsync-2.8.1.1390/resilio-sync_freebsd_x64.tar.gz.

# make ARCH=i386 checksum
===> License EULA accepted by the user
===>   rslsync-2.8.1.1390 depends on file: /usr/local/sbin/pkg - found
=> resilio-sync_freebsd_i386.tar.gz doesn't seem to exist in
/usr/ports/distfiles/rslsync-2.8.1.1390.
=> Attempting to fetch
https://download-cdn.resilio.com/2.8.1.1390/freebsd/i386/0/resilio-sync_freebsd_i386.tar.gz
resilio-sync_freebsd_i386.tar.gz                        12 MB 2592 kBps    05s
===> Fetching all distfiles required by rslsync-2.8.1.1390 for building
=> SHA256 Checksum OK for rslsync-2.8.1.1390/resilio-sync_freebsd_i386.tar.gz.

Works.

# What can be done to upgrade

I already tried to switch to linux version, but it also brings in whole
Linuxulator. Not fancy at all.

Another option is to go with podman/container, I think there's one with current
version of resiliosync available, haven't tested it though.

# Fetching issues

It's not the first time I see reports about files being unfetchable, and with a
high probability, those are due to the target country is blocked for legal
concerns. Can't help here.

# Conclusion

There are no newer versions for FreeBSD, but last version is still usable and
probably is still used by some people (including me). Adding a deprecation line
in a distant future (like 5 years from now) would be a good nudge to search for
alternatives, but I don't think removing the working port in coming year or
faster will benefit users.

Hope this helps.
