Works for me, I'm building net and a custom floppy for building new
servers.
The only problems I had that I recall is that the kernel had obselete
terms in it. Once those were removed life was fine.

The gzipped kernel fits just fine.

Sorry haven't had a need, but net has 2 or 3 of them by default.
