Do you really think it is better than PAE? Yes. It's very good and stable as a server platform. I use even 7-current-amd64 as a platform to create packages for 4.x -- 7.x for more than half a year now. There may be some issues as a workstation though (i.e. no drivers for nVidia cards etc.).
