BTW, an atacontrol command could have another advantage: I can hot-swap my fdd and my dvd in my laptop, though the fdd uses the fd-driver. This is possible because the fd driver finds the fdd on bootup even if it's not inserted - it just can't access it. When I boot with my DVD-ROM inserted, it also finds this one, and so I can just swap both in unmounted state - it works perfectly.
