Historically, odd spellings of this sort (in the FreeBSD kernel "exit" is "sys_exit") have been because exit(3) is not the same as sys_exit(2), as it runs at_exit handlers, etc. Since it's the syscall handler in DTrace, presumably that potential ambiguity doesn't actually play out, but it's worth keeping a wary eye out for...
