This is on an ASUS P4P800 GENERIC kernel. If I let the machine try to boot normally (hands off, or option 1 [default]) I get: ACPI autoload failed - no such file or directory as the first line, and it fails to boot. If I choose option 2 (ACPI Disabled) then I don't get the 'ACPI autoload failed' line, but it still fails to boot. (see my previous message '5.3 Beta1 boot problems' for failure) If I choose option 2 (Safe mode) I get the following failure mode: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Fatal trap 9: general protection fault while in kernel mode cpuid = 0; apic id = 00 instruction pointer = 0x58 :0x2dac stack pointer = 0x10 :0xf80 frame pointer = 0x10 :0x0 code segment = base 0xc00f0000, limit 0xffff, type 0x1b = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 0, gran 0 processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 0 current process = 0 (swapper) [thread 0] Stopped at 0x2dac: *** error reading from address 2dac *** ------------------------------------------------------------------ Starting with option 4 (Single user) fails with the 'ACPI autoload failed' line. Starting with option 5 (Verbos logging) fails with the 'ACPI autoload failed' line. Starting with option 6 (Escape to loader prompt) gets me to the loader prompt. If I then type 'boot-conf', it boots just fine. I would really really like to get this problem fixed before 5.3-Release (Booting worked fine as of 5.2-CURRENT 8-4-2004). This is a spare machine, so I can take any steps necessary to help debug this. I can also grant access to anybody willing to work on this problem. Please let me know what I can do to help resolve this problem. dmesg from successful 'boot-conf' boot follows: oregon root:~#>dmesg Copyright (c) 1992-2004 The FreeBSD Project.
