The IPSec section in the handbook at:

should probably mention that the following options need to be added to the
kernel config first as they are not included in GENERIC by default and the
examples assume them...:

options         IPSEC                   #IP security
options         IPSEC_ESP               #IP security (crypto; define w/ IPSEC)
