It is possible to boot UFS2 on i386, but the bootblocks are larger than 8k and the foot-shooting potential is therefore over my threshold for something I want to try to rush into 5.0. The basic procedure is: compile boot2 with BOOT2_UFS=yes change the BBSIZE #define in the disklabel program and recompile. Make sure you don't trash your filesystem when you write the new bootblocks. -- Poul-Henning Kamp | UNIX since Zilog Zeus 3.20 phk@FreeBSD.ORG | TCP/IP since RFC 956 FreeBSD committer | BSD since 4.3-tahoe Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by incompetence.
