I think they're considered the high end of the low end, if that makes any
sense. I've got two in my home machine, and they soak up some 27MB/sec if I
trust bonnie. Too bad bonnie is the only thing that I use that generates
that kind of traffic. :-)

Maxtor's cheap for what they offer, IMHO.
If you are using Ultra/ATA66, you'll need different cables than regular IDE.
Dunno about ATA100.
