If its barfing on a make world, especially at random points, my first guess
would be a hardware issue.  Do you have the latest BIOS for your board ?
Is your memory OK ?  CPU Fans are working ? etc...  As make world generally
stresses the box, any hardware issues that might exist tend to crop up here
in the form of crashes like above....
