It's the little 'k' in there I was worried about.  Vertical refresh rate =
is Hz
(ie. fps whole pictures/second) not kHz.

win2k insists my Compaq V70 only does 1024x768 @ 60Hz but it's been =
working
nicely at 85Hz.  I doubt if you'd notice any flicker at 76Hz unless your
ambient lighting was refreshing at an unfortunate harmonic :)

You shouldn't need to but Greg Lehey's explanation in The Complete =
FreeBSD
is worth reading if you have access to it.  Googling 'Xfree86 modelines'
leads to (hopefully) useful resources.
