Hey, guys! I finally downloaded the serial patch for 2.2.6 because the standard kernels didn't recognize my serial port or my internal 56k modem. The good news is that the patch allowed my kernel to recognize the serial port just fine, but the bad news is that it still doesn't recognize the modem. :( I haven't tested the serial port, since I misplaced my NULL modem cbl. But it seems to work... ??? I set it correctly in the BIOS (even tried a few permutations) so that the serial port is COM1 and the modem is COM2. I double-checked the IRQ's too. No luck. No matter what port I put the serial port onto, it recognizes that port, but just doesn't like my modem. Does anybody have any ideas (or even better-- another patch)? I'm running 2.2.6-R, Toshiba Tecra 550CDT; this is verbose mode: avail memory = 96440320 (94180K bytes) pcibus_setup(1): mode 1 addr port (0x0cf8) is 0x80001850 pcibus_setup(1a): mode1res=0x80000000 (0x80000000) pcibus_check: device 0 is there (id=06011179) Probing for devices on PCI bus 0: configuration mode 1 allows 32 devices. chip0 <generic PCI bridge (vendor=1179 device=0601 subclass=0)> rev 160 on pci0:0:0 vga0 <VGA-compatible display device> rev 5 on pci0:4:0 mapreg[10] type=0 addr=f8000000 size=4000000. pci0:10: vendor=0x1179, device=0x0701, class=comms, subclass=0x80 int a irq 11 [no driver assigned] map(10): io(ffc0) pci0:11: vendor=0x1033, device=0x0035, class=serial, subclass=0x03 int a irq 11 [no driver assigned] map(10): mem32(f7fff000) pci0: uses 67108864 bytes of memory from f8000000 upto fbffffff.
