The stablest 5 I've found is to use RELENG_5_2 as your release when you cvsup. The lockd dies in that version, so use a release of just . and src-sbin instead of src-all if you need lockd support. Also, don't run samba and quotas or you panic the kernel. Also, experimentation reveals that questions about 5.2 asked here are ignored, but if you ask them in the freebsd-stable list then people will answer you (but also chastise you for not asking them here where they actually belong).
