I   have patches  for   init to   run /etc/rc.shutdown, ask    if you  want
them. They're not finished in the sense that  for them to be complete would
require to rewrite halt/reboot to just send a SIGHUP  to init and last time
the subject was discussed, there was no consensus about it.

...and software to shutdown cleanly. Some catch SIGHUP but a general scheme
analog to /etc/rc.shutdown and/or /etc/rc0.d would be nice.
