That's "cvs update -Pd", right?

Did that originally on the tree (yes, I know about this).  The directory
structure is still there, and still blows up.  Just did it again -- and its 
still there, and still blows up in the same place.

===> dc
===> dc/doc
===> dialog
===> diff
===> diff/doc
===> diff3
===> gdb
===> gdb/bfd
===> gdb/libiberty
make: don't know how to make /usr/src/gnu/usr.bin/gdb/libiberty/argv.c. Stop

Stop.
*** Error code 1

No change.  If I REMOVE it and use "cvs update ." it comes right back where
it was.  Is my CVS tree wrecked?  I even went back and cvsup'd again, just
to make sure I'm current -- I am.
