Out of the ether, Chip Marshall spewed forth the following bitstream: > On August 08, 2000, Alan Clegg sent me the following: > > *WARNING* DO NOT USE IBM MICRODRIVE DEVICES IN THIS UNIT! > > *WARNING* DO NOT USE IBM MICRODRIVE DEVICES IN THIS UNIT! > > > uhub0: port error, restarting port 1 > > > ugen0: SanDisk USB CFII, rev 1.00/0.05, addr 2 > > Out of curiosity, why don't IBM microdrives work in these units? Does > that apply just to this specific type of CF reader, or to all USB CF > readers? The only USB reader that I have has now verifiably fried two 340MB MicroDrives. I'll be happy for anyone else to provide datapoints, as I'm not about to smoke another drive. 8-) The IBM MicroDrives work fine in their PCMCIA Type II Carriers, so that is my method of moving images from my Casio QV-3000EX to a 'real' drive. **UPDATE** the USB ImageMate device that I have reports itself as: umass0: SanDisk Corporation ImageMate CompactFlash USB, rev 1.10/0.09, addr 2 So the one reported above may be the "freaky, not-supported one". I bought mine at Circuit City for about $30, so it should be on the market for about $15 at any reputible store. BTW, it is labeled "SanDisk ImageMate" with a part number of: SDDR-31. As an additional datapoint, the ImageMate that I have works just GREAT with non-moving media (Kodak 16MB CF) under FreeBSD, and works fine under Wunders with the IBM MicroDrive.
